The Urea Formaldehyde Resin Business Unit operates plants in Villers-Saint-Paul, France, and Leuna, Germany.
The Business Unit produces and markets
Formaldehyde and amino resins based on urea formaldehyde (UF), to which melamine can be added to improve waterproofing properties. Marketed under the Caurite, Pressamine® and Leuna Leim brand names, the resins are mainly used in the lumber and laminate flooring industries.
Lumber industry
Amino resins are incorporated into adhesives used as bonding agents in the manufacture of various types of wood-based panel in the furniture and construction industries, such as particleboard, Medium Density Fiberboard (wood fibers combined with a bonding agent to produce an isotropic material), Oriented Strand Board (bonded wood strands, flakes or wafers) and plywood.
Laminated flooring
Some amino resins are used to impregnate paper for decorating wood-based panels, such as laminate flooring.
